Financial statement and VAT regime for returns of goods

Question:

Our company has as a policy the return of goods quarterly, according to the agreement with the clients, there being stock returns in the first month of the next financial year, related to the current financial year. How are these returns recognized in the financial statements and which is the VAT regime to apply?
