Vechiul drept românesc în opera Sfântului Voievod Neagoe Basarab şi Matei Basarab

ABSTRACT

The complex personality of the Holy Voivode Neagoe Basarab created two monuments of exceptional value: one in the field of architecture - the great Episcopal Church at Curtea de Argeş, and another in the field of literature: Neagoe Basarab’s teachings to his son Theodosie, one of the oldest masterpieces of old Romanian literature, written in Slavonic.

The Holy Voivode, in his "teachings" to his son, conceives not only moral principles for educating the youth, principles for governing the soul, but also rules and legal principles regarding the political governance of the state, which offer those who will follow them the inheritance of the true spiritual values.

In our opinion, Matei Basarab through his work "Pravila cea Mare" creates the first code of laws, ecclesiastical and lay, in Europe in a national language.
