Abstract:

The following article discusses in brief some fundamental positions concerning the political influence the National Parliaments of the Member States will acquire under the Treaty ofLisbon. As it is provided in the Treaty, those bodies will perform a subsidiarity check. Therefore, the National Parliaments will ensure the legislative proposals of the European Commission comply with the principle of subsidiarity. The procedure is set at length in two Protocols annexed to the Treaties (the Protocol on the role of national Parliaments in the European Union and the Protocol on the application of the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality, respectively).
