ABSTRACT
It may be said that cinematography is the first new form of art in the industrial age. At the beginning, it was not included among the defined forms with the accepted notion (at that time) of „art”, considering that it did not fulfill many of the „sacred” attributes of art and was outside the romantic vision of the artistic creation, a vision according to which an art work is characterized by authenticity and unrepeatability, being a unique creation of an individual author, an expression of genius.
By contrast, the cinematographic work was regarded as the result of a collective effort lacking the possibility to distinguish an individual creative genius. Moreover, it was said that there is no „original” of the work or, more explicitly, it was considered that the negative film is an original and the positive film is a copy of the negative, both having equal artistic value.
