Constituţie şi imaginare constituţionale în România contemporană

ABSTRACT

This article is based on the premise that what is or should be understood by a modern constitution should not be reduced to what the constitutional text provides, to scholarly exegeses, or to what the Constitutional Court interprets. On the contrary, from a plural and interdisciplinary perspective, we can acknowledge that Romanians have diverse understandings of the constitution, encompassing a multitude of specific images, beliefs, narratives, symbols, and emotions. Moreover, these do not form a coherent and unitary whole but a plurality. Using the concept of "constitutional imaginary", I will try to outline the three Romanian constitutional imaginaries - liberal-democratic, ethnic-national and authoritarian - and to highlight the competition between them.
