ABSTRACT

The author of this study aims to explain in detail the provisions of the first article of the Romanian Constitution regarding the identification elements of the Romanian state and its characters. The author presents the characters and the attributes of the Romanian state, and even more, the values underlying the constitutional democracy. Among other things, the paper makes a pertinent analysis of the democratic traditions of the Romanian people and the ideals of the popular uprising in 1989, ideals that were turned into constitutional provisions.
