ABSTRACT

Censorship, as an attribute to exercise the power (religious, military, political or economic) worked, under various forms, even be foregetting a name. In media, next to the official censorship imposed by the power, there is an internal one, made, directly or indirectly, by the editorial board, the employer or the share holders etc., the right to the freedom of expression of the journalists being often limited by the political or otherwise mercantile interests. Censorship of any kind, directly or indirectly, represents a major barrier against the exercise of the profession of journalist and in Romania, there have been a lot of examples, mostly in the recent years, when journalists, especially in the local media, have had trouble keeping a job when they did not respect the editorial policy imposed by the leadership.
